Privacy Policy

How AltGenie, a product of Schemerr Intelligence Lab, collects, uses, and protects data when you use our Shopify application.

The short version

We access only the product data needed to write alt text for your images. We don't touch customer or order data, we don't sell your information, and your images are never used to train AI models.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Schemerr Intelligence Lab ("we", "us", "AltGenie") handles information when a merchant ("you") installs and uses the AltGenie application within Shopify. By installing AltGenie you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

To provide the service, AltGenie accesses the following through Shopify's official APIs, with your authorization:

  • Product data — product images, titles, tags, product type, vendor, and existing alt text. This is the content AltGenie reads and updates.
  • Store metadata — your shop domain, store name, and plan/usage information needed for billing and credits.
  • Account contact — the email address, provided by you or retrieved from your Shopify store profile, used for task notifications and support.
  • Usage analytics — limited, aggregated information about how the app is used (e.g. tasks created, images processed) to operate and improve the service.

AltGenie does not request or access customer personal data, order data, payment information, or storefront visitor data.

3. How we use information

  • To generate, score, and write alt text for your product images.
  • To track image credits, process billing, and apply your plan.
  • To send task-completion and failure notifications you've opted into.
  • To provide support and respond to your requests.
  • To maintain, secure, and improve the service.

4. AI processing

To generate alt text, AltGenie sends your product images and the context you allow (such as product title and tags) to OpenAI, acting as our sub-processor. OpenAI processes the data solely to return generated alt text. Under our agreement with them, your content is not used to train their models and is retained only transiently for the duration of processing.

5. Sharing & sub-processors

We do not sell or rent your data. We share data only with service providers who help us run AltGenie, under contractual confidentiality and data-protection obligations, including:

  • OpenAI — to generate alt text from images.
  • Railway— cloud hosting & infrastructure to operate the application.
  • Resend — to send welcome and task-notification emails to the address on your account.
  • Shopify — as the platform through which the app reads and writes your store data and processes billing.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

6. Retention & deletion

We retain task records and settings while your app is installed so you can review history and so recurring tasks function. Alt text written to your products lives in your Shopify store and remains there even after uninstall.

If you uninstall AltGenie, we delete the data we hold about your store within 30 days, except where longer retention is required by law. You can request earlier deletion at any time (see "Your rights").

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and scoped API permissions limited to what the app needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to promptly address any incidents.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, communicated within the app. Continued use of AltGenie after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
